FYI Monthly from the Institute on Community Integration: September 2019
FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The September 2019 issue includes three feature stories, a leading ICI Facebook post from the past month, three new publications (in addition to those already covered in the feature stories), coming events, some staff updates, and an alumni update.
The first feature story is about a six-month project, led by a MNLEND Fellow and her mentor, that resulted in children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families more than doubling their average time outdoors where they explored the health benefits of interacting with nature. The other two feature stories are about new publications. The first featured publication is the latest issue of Frontline Initiative, jointly published by the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) and ICI’s Research and Training Center on Community Living, which covers the vital topic of DSP self-care. The second featured publication is Handbook on Community Living and Employment, which is jointly published by ICI and Life Route Foundation in Russia. The handbook is the first resource guide of its kind produced as a collaborative between a U.S. and a Russian partner in both languages, with the hope that users from both countries can learn from each other’s initiatives.
